New Orleans Audubon Insectarium News

7/3/07       News from Zack:

Just peeked at your web site. You may want to change the "fall '07" opening date on the Audubon Insectarium page to "summer '08."
Things look very, very good in the Custom House as regards exhibit installation! Plenty of progress to be seen almost daily and certainly week-to-week!

2/11/07     News from Zack:

Over the past several months, 4 major galleries have been in fabrication: The Main Carriageway, Success Stories, Metamorphosis, and The Hall of Fame.
Audubon staff has made a couple of out-of-state trips already to review work being done; some exhibit pieces has been finished and delivered; installation is expected to begin fairly soon.

These galleries will of course include graphics with great photos and terrific information (like the rest of the facility), but they will also have: highly realistic large-scale models of insects that are 5 feet long, well over a thousand gorgeous preserved specimens, fun interactive
exhibits about insect defenses, a "scorpion pit" that visitors can stand on and see scorpions fluorescing under ultraviolet light, amber and fossils ranging from 20 to 200 million years old, an "open lab" where staff will answer bug questions and feed various collection animals, and... there will be lots of live insects - the Main Carriageway even has an area with a special beetle focus - and this is only a third of the total space in Audubon Insectarium.

Both the Audubon Insectarium and the Insect Rearing Facility (IRF) suffered damage due to the huricane. I am glad to say that they are both back on their feet and looking better than ever.
The public part of the Insectarium is now set to open this fall and I know there are many people who are looking forward to the grand opening.
      The IRF was fetured on
first show of the new season of Dirty Jobs. The episode was called "Bug Breeder".
I am currently working on gathering more information and will post it here when I get it.

After the Dirty Jobs episode aired I have been recieving e-mail from people who are trying to reach the Insectarium.
To contact someone at the Insectarium or the IRF, use the link below and it will be routed to the correct person.
